About Truegrass Entertainment
Who am I?
My name is Alicia Wasson and I have grown up around bluegrass music from the time I was in the womb. My father, Rickey, played with Southern Blend in the early part of his career and then spent 15 years performing with J. D. Crowe as a member of The New South. My mother, Sarah, grew up in the midwest playing bluegrass and still continues to share her passion of the music by directing a Bluegrass Music Boot Camp at the Bean Blossom festival each summer. I can play bass, guitar, and mandolin and sing bluegrass myself and I have a younger brother, Darren, who can sing and pick like nobody’s business. I also have a younger brother who likes sports more than music but is there to support our family in all our bluegrass endeavors.
I graduated high school in 2012 and during the summer of 2012 I attended Grammy Camp in Nashville where I realized I could combine my love of business with my love of music. I moved to LaVergne, TN, just south of Nashville, in 2013 and attended Middle Tennessee State University where I went on to pursue a career in the music business industry. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in the Recording Industry, with an emphasis in Music Business, in December of 2015. I have spent my life watching bands perform, helping work record tables, and seeing the struggles bands go through to book shows and travel to them. When I was studying in college, I got to learn the back end of all the front end stuff I knew. I studied publishing, marketing, copyright, artist management, record label operations, contracts and legal issues, and touring and concert promotions and got excited to put my new knowledge together with what I learned in my life studies of bluegrass music and begin to help promote the music I love. I currently work in publishing administration in Nashville and enjoy running my label from my home.
What is next for Truegrass Entertainment?
It is my dream to be able to use my love of bluegrass music in combination with the skills I have learned to help other quality bluegrass and bluegrass gospel bands get their music out to the world. I want to provide bands with different options to share their music with the world. To do this, I will offer bands an option to completely pay for their own recording up front and then I will help them get the mastered project out to a finished CD and pay all the royalties that are owed to song writers as well as pay artists royalties. Additionally, when I find bands that I feel have all the right stuff to move into a bigger market, I will offer full recording deals that will pay the upfront costs for their recording and promotion. I will be working with my dad’s great recording studio in Clay City, KY, to be able to make this dream a reality. Rick’s Main Street Studio in Clay City is a state of the art studio complete with 4 temperature controlled isolation recording booths, a large live room for recording, a mix and mastering room second to none, and a full lounge area with a complete kitchen, shower, and an area to rest and relax when not recording. You can check out the studio on Facebook at Rick’s Main Street Studio.
I hope that you will continue to check out my new webpage and Facebook at Truegrass Entertainment and support bluegrass and bluegrass gospel music by supporting the artists and music that this new label brings to you.
